Important Information

Whether you're exploring the benefits of pediatric massage or preparing for your child’s first session, we’re here to help. This page offers simple tips and answers to common questions to ensure a comfortable, confident experience for you and your child.

What does the appointment look like?

Pediatric massage can look like a traditional massage on the table with oil, but it can also look very different. Each child gets to choose everything in their treatment from positioning (seated or lying down), pressure, music, body regions, and clothing. We start by reviewing the child's medical history, complete an assessment, and then discuss a treatment plan. Once the massage has started the kiddo and parent have the right to stop or modify the treatment at anytime.

Does my child need to undress?

Kid's (and adults) never have to fully undress for a massage. It is completely up to the kiddo and their comfort level. We use many different techniques during a massage and all are just as effective without lotion. We're teaching consent and it's important for them to feel safe and in control of the appointment. Kid's move, like a lot. Sometimes it's hard to keep them covered up (draped) with sheets. If they would like to undress or use oil during their massage we suggest bringing shorts and a tank top. Teenagers are able to undress if they're comfortable doing so.

3

What should we bring for the massage?

It can be helpful to bring snacks, a stuffy or comfort item to make the child feel more comfortable in the new space. We also have lots of different toys available for your child to play with during their massage

4

Does the parent need to stay in the room for the massage?

We do ask the parent to stay in the room at least for the interview and consent portion of the massage. If the older child or teenager asks the parent to leave the room after that we respect their choice. With little we ask parents to always stay in the room.

4

Can we collaborate with other health care practitioners?

We believe in a team-based approach to care, which is why we value collaboration with other healthcare practitioners. Working together with pediatricians, chiropractors, physiotherapists and other specialists helps us better understand each child’s unique needs and provide more effective, well-rounded support for their overall well-being.

Do you have recommendation for a child who is anxious about massage?

If your child feels anxious about coming for a massage, there are a few simple ways you can help ease their worries. Let them know they don’t need to undress if they’re not comfortable—many kids stay fully clothed. You’ll be in the room with them the entire time, and most importantly, they’re in charge of their treatment. We’ll always check in, explain what’s happening, and stop or adjust anything based on how they feel. Helping them know what to expect can go a long way in building trust and easing stress around a new exp.
